WOODBINE, Ga. -- The Camden County Courthouse courtyard will be filled with more than 100 women in March and they will be breast feeding, all because one woman was told she wasn't allowed to.
It's hard to believe but something so peaceful, so natural, as breast feeding could get a woman arrested in Georgia. Even though state law allows it, a mother could face public indecency charges.
"If we're going to be threatened with you know, you're going to be arrested for breast feeding that is a big deterrent to breast feed," said Kingsland mother, Nirvana Jennette.
Jennette was ordered to stop breast feeding at her own church. Her pastor compared her to a stripper and told her to leave.
"If we are supposed to be in a land of choices, equal rights, why should I stay home or be shunned or put off into a corner because I'm choosing what I think is the best thing for my baby," said Jennette.
So she's making it her own mission to change the law. She's organized a public "nurse-in" with more than 100 people at the Camden County Courthouse.
"This has been a grassroots movement for moms," she said. "We're tired of being scared, and victimized for being a mother because being a mom's hard as it is."
She'll be joined by 300-400 women in Atlanta and Savannah who will also participate in the nurse-in.
"When I saw I wasn't alone in this I thought well hey, maybe we can do something about this," said Jennette.
The nurse-in will take place Monday March 5th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Woodbine Courthouse on East 4th street.
Everyone is welcome to come out, and show their support for nursing moms.
