Brunswick Commissioner could be removed from post
BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- A Brunswick City Commissioner's job could be in jeopardy after his arrest in the investigation into the murder of a of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago.
Commissioner James Henry Brooks, Sr. was arrested Thursday night. Brooks' attorney says he stepped in between officers and the mother of 17-year-old De'Marquise Elkins, one of the teens charged with murder in the case.
According to the Glynn County Jail, Brooks is charged with influencing a witness and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. He is in jail under no bond.
Action News has learned Brooks' indictment will now be sent to Georgia's Governor. The Governor will then call for a panel to be formed to review the case and decide Commissioner Brooks' fate. During the investigation, Commissioner Brooks could be suspended with pay. No decisions have been made on Brooks' future at this time.
