JACKSONVILLE Fla.-- We're learning more about the prime suspect in the CVS robbery, a crime that may be connected to a deadly shooting Sunday at Mojo's.
Herman Pickens' mother spoke exclusively with Action News's Noel McLaren about her son's arrest and the moments that led up to him being shot by police. She says she is disappointed that he was accused of such horrible crimes.
"He's been in a little trouble," said Maxine Pickens, "but he never id anything like this before."
She says she spoke with her son shortly before he was chased and shot twice by police, and had urged him to talk to detectives.
"I told him to go down and turn yourself in," she said.
That was the last she heard from her son. She says police won't let her near him even to find out his condition.
"He's my oldest so of course I get a little emotional that I don't know how he's doing," she said.
She says all she can do is focus on her other children at home and pray that the accusations against Herman Pickens are not true.
"I hope it really ain't him and if it is that he does learn something from this," she said.
Police say Pickens is still in their custody as he recovers from gunshot wounds at UF Health.
