DOT could open two lanes of Mathews Bridge this week
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- One business owner in Arlington told Action News he can't wait for the Mathews Bridge to reopen. Sado Kawar said he's losing $2,000 a week due to the bridge closure.
"I just see a lot of cars stopping and waiting and I'm waiting with them," he said.
One of Kawar's customers at the All-American Tire shop said it used to take seven minutes to get to the shop from the Northside, now it takes two to three times as long because of the detours.
"It'll stop me from coming over here if it's not something that I have to do," said Mylinda Johnson.
Inspectors will examine the bridge to determine whether it is structurally sound enough to allow two lanes to reopen. The DOT hopes to have the bridge open in time for the Florida-Georgia game on Nov. 2.
