ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Deputies said they're investigating after a University of Central Florida student was raped at gunpoint at an apartment complex near the school's campus Friday night.
The attack happened shortly after 10 p.m. at an apartment complex off Alafaya Trail near Research Parkway, deputies said.
"A 32-year-old UCF student was taking her garbage out when a black male approached her with a firearm," Lt. Paul Hopkins with Orange County Sheriff's Office said.
The armed man is still on the loose and detectives said they are working to develop a good description of the suspect.
"Obviously it concerns us anytime a sexual battery occurs, but when there's a firearm involved, it really concerns us," Hopkins said.
Crime scene investigators searched for clues in the complex following the attack. Deputies are hoping the victim can give them enough information about the suspect to put together a composite sketch.
"Of course our sex crimes detectives will look at a motive and the M.O. that occurred tonight and see if it relates to any other cases," Hopkins said.Authorities are warning everyone on and around the campus to stay safe and be aware of their surroundings. The sheriff's office is expected to release more information as the investigation continues.
