STARKE, Fla. -- When detective Johnny Pons went to a home in Bradford County to investigate claims of stolen property, he had no idea he would find something else. Detective Pons says he found severe signs of animal neglect on Pamela Vossi’s property.
“We deal with a lot of major crimes here in the county, as other counties do. However, most of it we don’t take personally…this here, it becomes personal when you see six puppies that have no means of getting any nourishment,” said Detective Pons.
The dogs all belonged to Pamela Vossi. Inside the Bradford County Jail, Vossi told us she owned two of the dogs for approximately five years. She says the other two were just given to her, and she says none of the dogs exhibited signs of abuse.
That’s completely different from what a Bradford County veterinarian found when they examined the six dogs. The vet says the dogs were malnourished, infested with fleas and some had obvious signs of eye infections. Dr. Joel Sailor at Town and Country Veterinary Clinic in Starke treated all six dogs and advised they showed evidence of “severe neglect.”
The dogs were initially found on November 5th. On November 10th, Ms. Vossi showed up at the Animal Control Center to claim the dogs. That is where she was arrested and charged with six counts of Cruelty to Animals and Dealing in Stolen Property. She is being held without bond pending arraignment on Wednesday morning.
One of the dogs has been put into a foster home because it was in the best shape out of the six. Two of the other dogs are suffering from heart worms. Detectives tell Action News they’re hoping Vossi will voluntarily give up her custody of the dogs so they can be adopted. Detectives say if she doesn’t, they will seek an injunction to forcibly remove the dogs from her custody.
Woman busted for animal crueltyBRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. -- Six dogs are now in protective custody after they were found locked in a cage with no food or water.
A Bradford County detective was investigating a stolen property case when he made the discovery in the south end of the county. He headed to the home after Pamela Vossi's name came up during a burglary investigation. The suspect in those cases admitted taking some of the stolen property to Vossi's residence.
When Detective Johnny Pons went to the home Thursday to recover the property, he discovered the dogs. Vossi was not home at the time, so the dogs were placed in protective custody. A doctor treated them and advised they showed evidence of "severe neglect."
On Monday, Vossi showed up at the Animal Control Center to claim the dogs. Detective Pons was contacted and she was arrested.
Vossi is currently at the Bradford County Jail on no bond and scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday morning.
