JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is looking for possible links between the suspect in this week's police shooting and the murder at local barbecue restaurant Mojo No. 4 in Avondale.

Herman Pickens is accused of robbing a CVS in Ortega and shooting an employee until his gun jammed, according to police.

"He's been charged with armed robbery, attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon," said JSO Chief Annie Smith.

Authorities recovered a stolen 9 mm weapon after Pickens himself was shot in the torso and pelvic area during a chase with police. He's deemed a dangerous criminal, that investigators said is now off the streets thanks to the help of the community.

"We wouldn't have been successful, I don't think in these crimes as quickly if we hasn't had the tips from the citizens that we had on these high profile cases," said  Smith.

This isn't the 24-year-old Picken's first run-in with the law.  Action News found out he's been behind bars at least seven times since age 19.  We dug up his criminal record, and found a long list of charges.

In 2008, Pickens was arrested on charges of aggravated battery on a pregnant woman. Just seven months later, he was charged with burglary and resisting arrest. Then in 2010, the convicted felon was sentenced to two years for another burglary. Just last August, he was arrested on possession of marijuana charges.

According to the Florida state statute, if someone shoots another person, even if it doesn't result in death, that crime gets a minimum 25 years to life in prison. Pickens could face that and more time, if he's convicted of all three charges.
