JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A tiny dog thrown from a moving car is on the mend.

Abby underwent surgery Wednesday night.  Action News spoke with the Jacksonville Humane Society Thursday.

The organization said Dr. McNicholas from Affiliated Veterinary Services put two plates into Abby's shattered legs.

The dog is now recovering with a foster family until she's well enough to be adopted.

Since the story aired, the Humane Society raised more than $15,000 for Abby and animals like her who need medical care.

Jacksonville firefighters plan to present a check to the Humane Society on Friday. The money will go toward medical expenses.

How nasty are the pieces of garbage that would hurt an innocent animal that has nothing but love and TRUST in thier hearts for the ones around them? What is WRONG with "people"? I thought what seperated us from the animals is the ability to be compasionate and thoughtful... how come there are so many cases when we as a society do things that cant even be considered "animal like" because that would be putting the scum who did it on a pedestal? We are the only species that is hell bent on self destruction, regardless of the means or the "reasons" behind it. Our most "trusted leaders" have the ability to hit a button and wipe out the world. Thats it, nothing beyond that, just hit a button in unison with someone else. What other "animal" can do that? Thats another creationism "win", animals that you can track through an "evolutionary" path would not have "eveolved" with such malice and self destructive tendancies or it seems like there would be NOTHING after the first few generations of changes to the species. Look at us, we were able to go from clubs and spears to nukes\biological means to kill and now even lazers... if any other "animal" had the same capabilites as far as thought and reasoning I would be willing to bet MACRO "evolution" would create more of the euphoric peaceful society rather than the "perfect killing machine" that cant kill without the use of artificial means! A shark is great at killing its prey, it doesnt need a spear to do it. Bottom line 50% of the human population(and remeber Im an Optimist!:)!:)!:) ) SUCKS... its actually probably higher. We are content with killing ourselves, we want to throw dogs out of car while its driving down the road for "Fun"????? And Im not a vegan douche, I love meat and hunt, but I use what I kill(deliciously in steaks and sausages and stews Oh my!), I dont get off on hurting stuff just to do it. REAL PROBLEM HERE FOLKS!!! How long before someone with that mentality gets the chance to hit that button from earlier???

Thank you Local firefighters, you are all Hero's. I donated $10...but there are so many abandoned and abused pets in there and other shelters, I wish I could help and save them all. IT SHOULD BE GOVERNMENT REGULATED to spay and neuter, ALL PETS..And if you want to breed them, make it extremely expensive TO GET LICENSED, and if you are caught illegally breeding, abusing, abandoning a pet its a AUTOMATIC JAIL TIME AND A UGE FINE AND THEN POLICE SHOULD CHECK REGULARLY TO ENFORCE THESE LAWS.

A thousand curses to to piece of human excrement that would do this to this poor dog. And a thousand cheers to our Jacksonville firefighters for stepping forward to help.
