ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- All lanes are open on Interstate 95 after a jack-knifed semi shutdown the northbound lanes for hours Thursday afternoon.

The truck driver was killed in the crash, according to St. Johns County Fire Rescue.  He's been identified as Kenneth Elton Varnes, 69, of Hampton, Florida.

Investigators say he suddenly left the road and crashed into the trees.  Authorities don't know why just yet.

After the crash, the semi broke into flames.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the case.
