JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 13-year-old boy is accused of raping a girl at Kirby-Smith Middle School on Jacksonville's Northside.
According to the police report, Arkeem Askew forced a girl into a restroom at the school Monday. The victim told police Askew pulled her pants and underwear down to try to have sex with her. The police report says she struggled with him before he pushed her into a stall and overpowered her.
Police say Askew then had sex with the girl and forced her to perform oral sex. The girl was eventually able to escape the bathroom and contact school authorities.
Askew has been arrested and booked into a juvenile detention center. He has been charged with sexual battery on a victim over 12.
According to the police report, a school resource officer made Askew and his alleged victim complete written statements before contacting JSO.
Dr. Nikolai Vitti, superintendent of Duval County Schools, told Action News that school administrators followed proper procedure.
"It was a situation of fact finding initially and then move it forward and that's what happened," said Vitti.
