JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Eugene Morton says he and his fiancee were attacked after they tried to help a man in need. It happened inside their Westside home, on Astral Street on Sunday night.

Morton, who is 67-years old, says a stranger showed up at their front door, claiming to have car problems.

"I wanted to find out where's your car? How far did you walk? Do you need gasoline?"

Morton never got an answer. Instead, he says the man forced his way into the home. According to the police report, the suspect told Morton to go to the back bedroom, lay on the ground and put blankets over him.

"He tells me to hit the floor, cover up and don't look at what's going on," says Morton. "In the meantime, he's trying to assault my fiancee."

Morton says he and his fiancee fought back. At one point, the suspect pistol-whipped Morton. But eventually, the suspect left the home, without taking anything.

"There's nothing we can determine is missing other then lot's of blood," says Morton.

Morton was taken to the hospital for his injuries. His fiancee was not injured.

Police are looking for the suspect. If you have any information that can help police, call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
