COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -- A 15-year-old girl is being held in jail, accused of leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen car.
The incident began Friday morning when police received a report of a stolen rental car in Marianna, driven by a teenaged runaway.
Troopers in Lake City spotted the car on SR 93. Troopers tried stopping the car on SR47, but the driver kept going.
The Florida Highway Patrol said, "the vehicle was extremely reckless, passing numerous cars at a high rate of speed."
Investigators said the driver sped along the shoulder of the road to pass cars, hit several mailboxes, then skidded into a culvert and overturned.
The teenager was wearing a seat belt and was conscious when crews pulled her from the car. She was taken to Lake City Medical Center for an evaluation, then to the Columbia County Jail.
The teen faces charges of fleeing and eluding a police officer, willful and wanton reckless driving, grand theft, and driving without a license.
