JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Facebook is getting a new format…again.
The site’s optional timeline feature is becoming mandatory. So, if you’ve been avoiding the switch, like Danielle Tusing, hoping it would just go away – soon you won’t have much of a choice.
"I've heard it shows everything you've done all the way back. I'm not really a fan of that,” said Tusing.
But fan or no fan, Facebook timeline is coming to a profile page near you very soon. In a recent blog post, Facebook executives announced “over the next few weeks, everyone will get timeline.” The optional feature is soon becoming mandatory.
"That's really annoying. I don't think you should be forced to do anything on there that you don't want to do,” Tusing emphasized Thursday.
"I'll get used to it if I have to, but I don't think they should make it mandatory,” said Facebook user Dan Tivey.
Hundreds of Facebook users have actually gone to the site, itself, to voice their concerns on petitions and wall posts. Several are saying the new format may actually push them to leave.
"It might make me think twice about putzing around on there,” said Tusing.
According to the Facebook execs, once your profile changes over you’ll have seven days to preview what’s there. This gives you a chance to add or hide whatever you want before anyone else sees it.
