TITUSVILLE, Fla. (WFTV) -- A Brevard County family is sending a message to Washington on Friday while trying to survive the government shutdown.

A family in Titusville is selling off their belongings after the breadwinner was furloughed because of the shutdown. He works for a company that contracts IT work from NASA and hasn't been to work since last week.

So, in a creative effort to help pay the bills, they've advertised the garage sale as a "government shutdown sale."

Family members said they know they'll only make about 15 percent of what the husband and father would normally make in a week, but they had to do something to keep food on the table.
