JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Putnam County father is dead after a head-on crash in Interlachen Tuesday morning.

The crash happened on SR 20 near the SR 21 intersection. A baby boy was taken by ambulance to a Gainesville hospital.

Action News learned that 8-month-old Randy Smith remains in critical condition. The other driver, 22-year-old Chelsea DePriest, is in stable condition.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 50-year-old Ed Sherwood was killed when his car hit a pickup driven by DePriest.

DePriest was attempting to pass in a no pass zone. FHP is investigating if alcohol played a role in the accident.

"He was an all-around nice guy. At his place of work, he would give you the shirt off of his back," said friend and former co-worker, Karl Eisenberg.

Action News spoke with Sherwood's wife who was still heartbroken from the tragic accident. She says he operated Ochwilla Hill Farm and it was a labor of love.

They family sold organic vegetables and milk grown in their backyard. Now, his wife fears the farm may go under.
