ORLANDO, Fla. (WFTV) -- A former Jet Blue flight attendant, who is accused of trying to smuggle heroin into the U.S., could face life in prison.

Karla Alvarado, 33, of Kissimmeewas indicted by a grand jury Thursday.

Authorities said Alvarado was caught by customs officers at Orlando International Airport last month, hiding heroin underneath her uniform.

Agents said Alvarado was being paid $10,000 to transport the drugs from Colombia to Carlos Luis Alomar-Baello, 43, in central Florida.

The next day, agents said they arranged a meeting with Alomar, who was arrested after taking possession of a bag he thought contained the heroin. Agents said they searched Alomar’s home and found more heroin that he had hidden there.

If convicted, Alomar and Alvarado each face a minimum penalty of 10 years and a maximum penalty of life in federal prison.
