NAPLES, Fla. (My Fox Atlanta) -- A Florida mom is upset over a letter her daughter brought home from school, warning her about her child's weight.

Kristen Grasso said her daughter isn't fat or even overweight, and this is an attack on her self-esteem.

Grasso said the results from her daughter's health screening at school labeled the 11-year-old as overweight. It said that her body mass index was too high for a child her age and height. However, Grasso said her daughter is by no means unhealthy.

Grasso said the 11-year-old is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 124 pounds. She said whoever did the screening listed her daughter as being two inches shorter than her actual height, making the classification totally inaccurate.

Grasso said she worries these letters are sending young girls the wrong message.

These health screenings are part of a new strategy that some schools across the country are using to combat childhood obesity.
