PONTE VEDRA, Fla. -- Retired FBI agent Dale Carson says there were a lot of signs that Quinn Gray wasn't telling the truth about her alleged kidnapping.
"That's clearly someone who isn't suffering," said Carson, while watching Gray answer questions from reporters.
Gray told police she was kidnapped by Jasmine Osmanovic the Friday before Labor Day.
Carson is a former FBI agent, and now a defense attorney. We sat down with Carson and showed him the video of her coming out of jail and the police incident report.
"She seems comfortable, like she knew it was coming and wasn't stunned when she was arrested," said Carson.
Carson says she carries herself with dignity, almost regal-like. "She's not answering questions directly. She's being evasive," said Carson. "I'm assuming she assumes she'll get out and this is just a bump in the road."
Gray is accused of trying to extort $50,000 from her husband Reid Gray. Police say she arranged her own kidnapping. Her story has had a lot of twists and turns. Carson says, even the first letter they found in her home was like an episode right out of television.
"It's rare you see a written message and when it's written, it's usually very to the point," said Carson.
Carson also noticed Gray had a lot of contact with her husband during her alleged kidnapping. She made several calls to him telling him where to drop off the ransom money. "I'm seeing a number of entries that say she was running the operation," said Carson.
Then there's all the times Gray claims she was left alone, even with the gun, inside a Southside hotel room. The report claims she even went to get beer. Carson says that's another sign that she was never in any danger.
"If you were put in a room, wouldn't you try to leave? The answer is yes. You'd do anything if you were truly in fear," said Carson. Action News did talk with Gray's sister Friday. She told us by phone,
Right now, Gray is still in jail and doesn't have a lawyer.
"This is a very hard time for her family. That man, (Osmanovic) is a monster. He's an animal and a liar, not my sister."
