Highway sex leads to indecency, assault charges
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man and a woman are facing indecent exposure and felony aggravated assault charges.
The Nassau County Sheriff's Office says a man passing another car saw a woman performing oral sex on the driver near I-95 and Duval Road on Sunday afternoon.
The man told investigators he asked his girlfriend to look over and see what was going on. That's when the woman in the other car glanced over and noticed they were being watched.
The driver of the other car then followed the man and his girlfriend all the way up I-95 to Reni's Redneck Yacht Club off Highway 17. The witness told investigators the man tried to run them off the road.
Both cars eventually stopped. The witness told investigators the man approached his car in a threatening manner, and his female partner walked over with a gun in her hand. She then pointed it at the witness before driving away, according to the arrest report.
Deputies arrested the couple at a home in Fernandina Beach. They've been identified as Ernest Felix Gonzales, a golf pro at the Amelia Island Golf Club; and Suzanne Welker, an employee at a Compass Bank in Fernandina Beach. Authorities found a gun in their car. Gonzales told police he was angry because people tried to take pictures of his girlfriend. Welker told police she was drinking at the Jaguars game earlier that day.
Welker faces additional charges of using a firearm while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.
