JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- There is no place like home for the holidays. And that is exactly where Jen Watson hopes all of her pit bulls end up this Christmas.
"Pets are great additions to any family," she said.
She runs Pit Sisters Rescue, and next Friday they will join dozens of animal shelters at the fairgrounds for a mega pet adopt-a-thon. "The families always tell us that it's the best thing that has happened to them," she said.
Friday November 30 through Sunday December 2, families can comb through rows and rows of cats and dogs who desperately need a new home.
"It takes them out of the shelter, the concrete, the cold hard floors where they may not live and gives them a chance at the life they deserve," said Watson.
The fairgrounds will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. And Watson hopes you stop and take a look. "It saves their lives. It absolutely saves their lives," she said.
Watson says when up add four paws to your family, it's your heart that grows bigger. All of the animals at the fairgrounds will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
