JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A JFRD fire engine did not slow down enough before causing a chain reaction crash Saturday evening on Beach Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Thomas Harmon, 45, was driving the fire engine when it struck the rear of a SUV on Beach Blvd. near Spring Glen Road.

The force of the crash forced the SUV into the back of another car, slightly injuring one person.

Harmon was charged with failure to use due care.

The crash caused $1,500 worth of damage to the fire engine.

JFRD has training that covers the differences in driving their various vehicles and those the public normally operate. This was an "accident" by definition but if all the guidelines are being followed it should not have happened at all. That said I'm not perfect either.
