JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is searching for, 27-year-old Deshawn Brown.
Brown is wanted for aggravated domestic battery. And when sheriffs deputies showed up to this house on gilmore street in riverside to serve his arrest warrant, they weren't expecting it would turn into a nearly 5-hour SWAT standoff. "Upon approach to the house there was also a weapon notice in the house. So upon our policy we had a swat callout and had swat called to the scene so they could attempt to use a more tactical approach to apprehend the suspect," says JSO Officer Shannon Hartley.
While at the scene police took another suspect into custody, 23-year-old Shawn Robinson, who had an outstanding warrant on habitual traffic offenses. He came out of the house willingly. But as the SWAT team was getting into place to catch Brown, Hartley says, that's when they believe he slipped out. "Investigators are going through the process trying to determine the location and find out where he's at and take him into custody," he says.
As for the safety of the community, Hartley says he doesn't believe anyone is in immediate danger. "We don't think there's any problems with him being out in the community other than we want to get him into custody and hold him accountable for the crimes he's wanted for."
The home is just about a block away from Central Riverside Elementary School. During the standoff there was talk of shutting the school down for the day. Another school nearby also was temporarily put on code yellow during the standoff. Both schools have been reopened and school is in session.
