JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- Planes flying in and out of Jacksonville are being delayed.

Passengers are looking up at the arrival and departure screens and seeing plenty of red too, as Atlanta flights are canceled for winter weather up there.

You could tell by the way runway workers in Jacksonville were bundled up Wednesday that it's near freezing.

But it's not cold enough to be a problem for the planes they're servicing on the ground because the tarmac temperature is well above freezing.

Christopher Styles, operations manager at Jacksonville International Airport, said they are not worried about weather conditions here.

"Even if we did have sub-freezing [air temperatures], any accumulation of sleet or freezing rain [is] not going to accumulate on the runway," said Styles.

Unlike northern airports, Jacksonville's runway would have to shut down if it were hit with snow because the airport does not have the infrastructure to deal it.

"Snow removal machines or ice removal like salt and sand, we don't stockpile that here," said Styles. "But we don't anticipate that would be a problem."
