JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars are turning over the keys of the offense to Miami Hurricanes offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch. ESPN first reported the first hire of the Gus Bradley era citing a league source.
Bradley and Fisch worked together in Seattle before the new coordinator left for Miami. Fisch is a Gator and worked for four NFL teams, (Houston, Baltimore, Denver and Seattle) since graduating from Florida. The book on Fisch says he runs a pro-style offense and has worked under some great coaches (Spurrier, Carroll, Shanahan and Billick).
Hiring out the rest of the staff and then going to work on evaluating the Jaguars roster are the first things on Bradley's "to do" list. One of the interesting things to come out of the introductory news conference is Bradley's take on how a quarterback should run to influence or "stress" a defense. It makes sense understanding that he practiced against Russell Wilson every day in Seattle. The Jaguars say they want to use the threat of the quarterback running to help establish the run game. This will be much different than the Blaine Gabbert running for his life employed last season.
The makeover is underway. The hiring of Mel Tucker in Chicago opens the door for the next defensive coordinator in Jacksonville. So far, Gus Bradley has gone with what he knows in his first hire. His old friend from Seattle, Jedd Fisch, is in charge of putting points on the board for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
