JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- There's a feeling and sound in the air that moves to the rythm of Jingle Bells.
It's the way kids are supposed to experience and remember Christmas with Santa. But for a local boy any childhood pleasure of seeing Santa and dancing to Jingle Bells is something that will go unfulfilled.
"It was a normal pregnancy. He moved and everything," said Adrianna Jordan."He was moving a lot actually. So we thought everything was fine. Nothing went wrong at all," Jordan said."Whe he came out his eyes were wide open and he was not crying and he wasn't moving. They weren't exactly sure what was wrong," said Adrianna.
Jordin is unable to do things most 11 month olds can do. He was born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. It's also known as SMA.
"He has SMA Type 1. Basically he can't move at all," Jordan said.He can't reach out and touch his mother's face. He can't crawl. He can't even cry out loud."
I cried for a week straight. And then I was like, I can't cry anymore because he would notice. He would look at me like, why are you crying mom," his mother said.
Jordin is hooked up to all kinds of machines that keep him alive. He's fed through a tube.
"I don't want people to feel sorry for me because everybody has their own things that they go through and this is just something that I have to go through. God wants me to go through this," said Adrianna.
"I know once I start to get sad I just look at him and he'll smile at me and then that makes me happy all over again," Jordin's mother said.Happiness seems to be in short supply.
Doctors say the precious little boy, whose entire life revolves around lying motionless watching some of his favorite movies, has another month to six months to live.
His mom's Christmas wish is hoping doctors are wrong.
Jordin will likely see his first Christmas, but making it to his next may require the help of a higher power.
"I don't feel like you can prepare yourself for your child to die. I don't think anybody can ever prepare their self. You can't ever be ready for your child to die no matter how much you tell yourself you're okay with it. You can't. No!," she cries.
Community Peds Care provides critical care to Jordin and so many others like him in Northeast Florida.
Jordin will celebrate his first birthday on January 24, 2013.
It all seems much harder on his 20-year-old mother than him. But then, Jordin will do the one thing he can do.
And yet her son Jordin lies in bed, hour after hour, day after day.
