BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- Dominique Lang is 15 years old and facing life in prison.  He's the youngest of the two suspects charged with killing a Brunswick baby.

But his attorney, Kimberly Copeland, says police have painted the wrong picture of her young client. She describes the 8th-grader as passive, a kid with no prior criminal history. "He's not a monster at all," she said. "Anyone you talk to, he's a good kid. He don't have any gang affiliation. He was not a child who was into fights."

She says Lang was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time that March morning when 13-month-old Antonio Santiago was killed. According to the baby's mother, two teenagers tried to rob her.  When she said she didn't have any money, the older teenager shot her baby in his stroller. Police say the shooter was 17-year-old DeMarquise Elkins.  The other teen was identified as Lang.

Copeland said, "She may have assumed they were together, but there's no other evidence to support that theory."

Copeland says her client didn't know Elkins, that the two met moments before the crime as Lang walked to a relative's house. He was home sick from school that day.

His was the second of five arrests connected to a case that seems to get more complicated by the day. We told you Wednesday how Elkins defense now claims this could be a murder-for-hire case.

Copeland doesn't know if that's true but she did say, "I think there's more to this case than meets the eye."

A bond hearing is set for Elkins Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Glynn County Courthouse. Lang's attorney says she won't seek bond for her client.  She says he's safer in jail. She doesn't think a judge will grant bond for either teen because this case has such a high profile.

You are known by whom you associate with. Also if he did not know the other boy, why did he and his family dispose of the gun? You do not walk the streets when you are too sick to go to school.

She says that the two didn't know each other, but when police arrested Lang he told the police De'Marquise killed the baby and De'Marquise's sister led police to the place she disposed of the murder weapon. He was sick from school, but he didn't visit a doctor. There is also video evidence from convenience stores that show the two together while they were getting some refreshments before they went on their murder quest.

Copeland said, "She may have assumed they were together, but there's no other evidence to support that theory." Yeah, right. If I happened to meet somebody new and 10 minutes later they shot somebody, I'd run too..... Right straight to the cops. I ain't NOBODY'S snitch, but for that, I'd roll in a heartbeat.
