MARION COUNTY, Fla -- Corporal punishment is coming back to Marion County schools, but with key differences from the policy that was struck down in 2010.

On Tuesday night, the School Board voted 3-2 to reinstate the policy but only for elementary schools. Parents must give written permission beforehand, as well as give verbal permission to school officials before it's carried out.

A student can only receive corporal punishment once per semester.

It can only be given once per semester? Why bother with punishment at all? It needs to be given when it is warranted and that is any time that a child is disrupting the learning process of the rest of the class.
