MARION COUNTY, Fla. -- Police used computer software to track down a man they say was downloading child pornography.
The man, 25-year-old George Fout is facing 28 counts of possession of child pornography. Using special technology, investigators found a slew of disgusting images and videos on his home computer. When they questioned him, they say Fout admitted everything.
Fout refused to answer questions on his way to lock up in Marion County. The police report says officers found file after file of pornographic images and videos involving young children. They say Fout even admitted to it. He called himself a "monster," saying it was a "mistake he was born" and he's been "like this" for years.
Police say Fout isn't alone and what he did online led police right to him. In Florida, officers are now using sophisticated software that helps them pinpoint the bad guys when they download child porn. All police had to do was tap into Fout's computer IP address and catch him downloading child pornography.
Fout is not the first person to be arrested using this software. In 2009, police did a statewide sweep. Back then, FDLE praised the new tools. "We have a library of known video and once we find someone who is trading that known video, we trace it back to the residence. My agents immediately know what city that person is located and we trace it to a suspect," said Agent Mike Phillips.
According to the police report, Fout lived at home with his parents and is listed as a computer repairman. Fout is currently in the Marion County jail on $280,000 bond.
