Man dies after being rescued from water at Hanna Park
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man has died after nearly drowning while swimming at Hanna Park on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the 62-year-old man and a 10-year-old boy were caught in rip currents at the Mayport park.
The child was rescued from the water, but the man began to struggle. Four beachgoers helped bring Paul Demshar out of the water.
Demshar was taken by helicopter to UF & Shands Jacksonville where he later died.
A sign was posted at the park entrance that no lifeguards were on duty.
