CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- It's the largest underground-drug growing operation the Clay County Sheriff's Office has seen in years. Action News has learned the suspects arrested were so organized and skilled even the materials they used couldn't be traced back locally.

Police say the suspects worked hard to be completely inconspicuous. We found out one of the suspects was very knowledgeable in electrical work, and allegedly tapped into a power line, to run wiring that would light up their underground greenhouse.

About $846,000 worth of very high-grade marijuana is now in the hands of the Clay County Sheriff's Office, after deputies found a massive underground growing operation in a rural Middleburg community. They describe what was found 20 feet below the home as remarkable.

"They had to dig this hole, they had to put it in there, they even poured a concrete patio over the top of it," said Sheriff Rick Beseler.

Two 40-foot tractor-trailer units were filled with more than 200 pot plants, and maintained by five Cuban men, living in this country legally. They used intricate cooling systems and stolen power for lighting the bunkers.

"They appeared to be construction workers with backhoes and trackhoes and heavy construction equipment parked in and around their property, so their neighbors didn't get any suspicions," said Beseler.

One neighbor tells Action News she sensed a strong odor from their home and knew something wasn't right.

"If you came outside, you would be bombarded by this smell and I have a 4-year-old son. I wouldn't let him play outside because I would get light-headed," said the neighbor.

Another neighbor says he remembers seeing those trailer beds come in several months ago.

"We thought he had some sort of trucking business or something of that nature," said Mike Thornton. "We didn't know that he had his own grow operation going on."

Police say the suspects are charged with cultivation of marijuana and manufacturing as well. They also say more arrests could be made, and that the investigation is ongoing.

And for you history buffs...and ALSO why I'm so sick of the Black race using slavery as an excuse after all these years...It's this period of time that links my family history...Slavery was not a just a Black thing. It was and is a sick thing though. The first European contact with the Chickasaw ancestors was in 1540, when the Spanish explorer Hernando De Soto encountered them and stayed in one of their towns, most likely near present-day Tupelo, Mississippi. After various disagreements, the American Indians attacked the De Soto expedition in a nighttime raid, nearly destroying it. The Spanish moved on quickly.[5] The Chickasaw began to trade with the British after the colony of Carolina was founded in 1670.[citation needed] With British-supplied guns, the Chickasaw raided their neighbors and enemies the Choctaw, capturing some members and selling them into Indian slavery to the British. When the Choctaw acquired guns from the French, power between the tribes became more equalized and the slave raids stopped.

Strange some states have legalized it yet in other states people are doing long jail time. What is not discussed is how they found out about it. Probably using ground penetrating radar in flybys overhead. That or possibly using infra red or thermal vision to detect the lamps at night. With drones doing fly overs and scanning homes and their property will become so much more easier and convenient now. I don't want see Marijuana legalized, but it should be illegal in all 50 states or none at all. Otherwise injustice will prevail. As far as the legal immigrant issue. The test to become a national citizen is very hard to pass. So hard that most natural born here Americans could not pass it. Yet we require immigrants to do so. As far as illegals wonder if anyone worried about that issue when they were killing Native Americans and taking their land. Since Native Americans were not "civilized" people. Unless you can prove to me your family has at least 11 generations here you have no room to comment about immigrants. After all at some point in the past 200 years or less your family came over here by boat not at the request of the American Indians either.

Then you better call the news station and CORRECT them because I absolutely heard them say they ARE NOT AMERICAN CITIZENS. THAT'S the problem RIGHT THERE. You and the d@mn government claim they are LEGAL citizens just because they are here on work visa's. AND that they are automatically entitled to ALL THE JOBS, FREEBIES AND ENTITLEMENTS while they are here INCLUDING VOTING. The last I heard you have to STUDY AND TAKE A TEST TO BE SWORN IN TO BECOME AN AMERICAN CITIZEN, to be entitled to 'collect' and receive all America has to give, but no, there are millions here working and claiming they are LEGAL according to the sorry government, might be legal to you, but not me.

Gives a new meaning to these illegals coming over here on 'work visa's'. They come over here taking work from American citizens, voting illegally and living better than most of us that are out here struggling. And since they are NOT American citizen's, they probably wont be prosecuted.
