JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Slow and steady usually wins the race, but in this case, the end result is irreversible damage to the Mathews Bridge.

Action News viewer Ron McDonald shared video of the moment a Navy ship collided with the Mathews Bridge.

"I saw the ship coming from over here and I noticed the great size of it," said McDonald. "I kind of had the feeling it wasn't going to pass under there."

McDonald said he called for help once he witnessed the crash.

"Sure enough, you could see the two prongs slice right through the bottom, all kinds of debris falling," said McDonald.

"When I saw it hit the bridge, I said, 'Great! That bridge is going to be closed,'" he said.

Wonder how the people on the bridge felt? These idiots must be the same ones that hit my dock a few years ago and just kept on going.
