LAKE CITY, Fla. -- Just back from the hospital where she said her final goodbyes, Jarvin Jackson's mother fought back tears as she mourned his loss.

The mother of the 11-year-old boy police say was accidentally shot by a 4-year-old cousin says her son died a hero.

Jarvin Jackson's mom, Kawanna Hutcherson, told Action News that her son died bravely trying to save his 4-year-old cousin from a gun. She believes he also saved other children who were in the apartment.

"My son is a hero," she said. "He saved so many lives and it was an unfortunate accident but he saved so many lives because it could have turned out worse than it was."

Hutcherson says at just 11 years old, Jarvin already knew he wanted to grow up to help others.

"He said he wanted to be a doctor when he grew up," she said.

With Jarvin's dreams cut short, his family is left with emptiness, but they take solace in the fact that he lived a full life and that his suffering is now over.

"God knows I'm going to miss my son but before I let him suffer I let him go home to The Lord," said Hutcherson.

Police say the investigation is still underway and could take a while since their key witnesses are minors. No arrests have been made so far.

Your right Deeperview,...but this loss sounded so preventable by what little the news is saying, and way too many kids somehow are STILL getting their hands on loaded weapons.

At least wait for the facts before passing judgement..My God! the lady just lost her child, and this is the first thing slip out your mouth...There are always holes in every story, but lets just wait before we speculate..People are so crazy, they never want to see the good, they crave for something bad, to have something to pass around...spread the good news! He was hero!

There are TOO MANY holes in this story. Yes, it's tragic this young child lost his life and he probably is a hero..BUT WHAT KIND OF MOTHER ALLOWS A GUN AROUND HER HOUSE OR HER CHILDREN AROUND A GUN IN SOMEONE ELSE"S HOUSE?
