ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. -- The Gainesville Police Department has announced murder charges against Pedro Bravo, the man who got into a fight with Christian Aguilar on the night he disappeared..
Aguilar disappeared eight days ago. Pedro Bravo told police he got into a fight with Aguilar outside a Gainesville business and Bravo left Aguilar injured on the side of the road last Thursday. Aguilar's body has not been recovered, but police believe they have enough evidence to charge Bravo with murder. He was already behind bars for failing to call for medical help.
Bravo isn't saying much, and has sought legal counsel.
"I don't have any more tears right now. The pain is in my chest," Carlos Aguilar, Christian's father said.
Aguilar says the news of his son's death is heartbreaking. They searched day and night for answers...when Bravo had them the whole time.
"In that moment it destroyed my family. They are broke. Too broken," he continued.
Aguilar and Bravo went to school together in Miami before moving up to Gainesville this summer. Christian's dad says he remembers Bravo being studious and well kept...not the cold, unconcerned person he is now.
"Deepest condolences of the Gainesville Police Department are with the Aguilar family today," Officer Ben Tobias said.
There is still an active search for Aguilar's body. 18 law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and U.S. Marshals, are helping with the search.
Bravo is due in court Saturday morning at 9.
