JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The man accused of the kidnapping and sexual battery of a teenage girl is behind bars. He faced a judge early Wednesday morning.

With his hands shackled in front of him, Thaddeus Anderson, 21, entered a courtroom Wednesday morning for his first appearance. He stood emotionless as the judge listed his offenses.

Police took him into custody Tuesday for heinous the crimes against a child, kidnapping and sexual battery.

Police said they traced the path the teen would have taken after she didn't show up at a friend's house. The girl came frantically running toward them when they got to the duplex.

She told police she was raped inside. Police said she then described a man that looks like Anderson.  A few moments later, police saw Anderson and arrested him.

Action News has learned it was a friend of the girl who alerted police something was wrong.

"I think it's pathetic that they have to do things like that," said neighbor Larry Blake.

Blake lives a few doors down from the abandoned duplex and said he's sad but not surprised to learn what happened there.

Signs taped to the window of an abandoned duplex on Pinevalley Lane on the Westside clearly show the home is empty. Police said the 16-year-old girl told them she was grabbed from behind and drug inside.

"They've been breaking into that house for the past two years time in and time out," he said.

Blake just hopes something will finally be done about this duplex. He says the Homeowners Association claims its hands are tied.

"I think so because something that drastic had to happen unfortunately, I think something may happen," Blake said.

The judge set bond at $300,000 for Anderson's five charges. He will be back in court on August 7.
