JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The words seemed to sit over the crowd and linger.
"As far as Tim goes, he is a member of the New York Jets. So I can't imagine a scenario where he would be a Jacksonville Jaguar,” said David Caldwell, the new General Manager for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
It was so shocking to some, Caldwell was asked to repeat himself.
"I can't imagine a scenario where he'd be a Jacksonville Jaguar,” he said again.
Tim Tebow, the homegrown quarterback hailed as a hero to many, was shot down Thursday by the new team leadership.
So what do local businesses think about the comment?
"I like the fact that he was honest to the press and everyone else in this community,” said Justin McCoy of Sports Mania.
McCoy says he’s just happy the topic was finally put to bed and he doesn’t foresee it affecting their sales.
"I think it was a pretty good idea, what he said,” McCoy said, “Instead of putting this community in a hostile situation for several months, he came out and said Tim Tebow will not be the future of the Jaguars."
It’s a choice Jags owner Shad Khan says wasn’t his, but he certainly stands behind it.
“I believe in empowering people, giving them resources and then holding them accountable,” said Khan. “I want to do whatever to help this team win, but who the players are is really the GMs and coaches, and the football side of the operations' decision. It's really not my decision."
