FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. -- Nine students from Fleming Island High School are facing felony burglary charges.
Investigators say the students, most of whom are on the football team, broke into a home on Riverbirch Lane Memorial Day weekend.
"I think most of them kind of followed the situation, allowed that pack mentality to form, then justified their actions," Detective Jermaine Boone said.
The homeowner told deputies they went out of town for vacation. The family returned home and found that someone had ransacked their house. The daughter apparently left the front door unlocked, according to investigators. However, investigators also found pry marks on the back door and a broken metal latch on the ground.
The burglars stole two shotguns, two rifles, ammunition, a gun safe and bag, hundreds of dollars in cash, clothing, a laptop computer, video game equipment, golf clubs, guitar, and a television.
Elizabeth Alexander lives across the street from the home that burglarized. She noticed a lot of cars the night of the incident....but didn't think much of it.
"I figured maybe he was just having a couple friends come over and actually they said they were moving so I thought it was a go away party...with parents involved, of course," she said.
Brandyn Kekoa-Lale Demankowski, 17, is charged with armed burglary and altering the serial number on a firearm.
John Fredrick Biscardi, 16, is charged with armed burglary to a residence,
Samuel Edward Greer, 17, is charged with armed burglary to a structure.
Ronald Howard Turner, 17, is charged with armed burglary to a residence.
Stanlova Paulson Sainvilus, 17, is charged with burglary to a residence.
John Wayne McDaniel III, 17, is charged with armed burglary.
Brandon Charles Lyons, 16, is charged with armed burglary to a residence.
Beau Garrett Yarbrough, 16, is charged with burglary to a residence.
Na'Tavius Lamar Williams, 17, is charged with armed burglary to a residence.
Authorities recovered one of the stolen weapons at Demankowski's home.
Two of the guns, a rifle and a shotgun have been recovered. A .22 calibur antique rifle is still out on the streets...which worried police. On top of that, two of the boys have a criminal history...meaning severe punishments could come down the pipe.
The boys are expected to make a court appearance Wednesday.
