LAKE CITY, Fla. -- A boy accidentally shot by a 4-year-old has died from his injuries.

Jarvin Jackson, 11, died at UF & Shands Hospital in Gainesville on Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting happened Sunday morning in Lake City at the Cedar Park Apartments complex. The woman who called 911 is still shaken.

"The children were covered in blood," she told Action News. "I went inside the house because I heard all the kids screaming and the little boy was laying on his back, covered up."

The 911 caller, who didn't want us to reveal her name, is a mother herself. She said there were at least six children inside the apartment where the shooting took place, and a man who was at the apartment seemed concerned with his well-being.

"He was like, 'Oh my God, somebody help me, help me, help. I'm going to prison, my life is over, my life is over.' He opened the back door and was just like not even paying attention to the children anymore," she added.

The woman told Action News she took all the children to her home and called police.

The Lake City Police Department and DCF are investigating how the 4-year-old got access to the gun, and whether there was adequate supervision for all the children.

Lake City Police have not ruled out charges against someone in this case.
