JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol says one person is dead in a crash at a retention pond on the Southside.

The pond is very deep, which prompted authorities to call in additional crews to not only find the submerged vehicle but look for additional victims.

The crash happened at I-295 and Philips Highway.  FHP says a witness saw a vehicle go into the pond and called 911 around 5:24 a.m.

JFRD and the JSO dive team responded and located the vehicle, a silver Kia, with one person inside.  Investigators say the victim is 55-year-old David Brown. Brown was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is the second time a car has gone into a retention pond this week.  Good Samaritans helped rescue a woman and a young child from an SUV that went into a pond along Beaver Street on Wednesday.

Action News has crews at the scene gathering more information.  We'll have the latest on Action News at noon on CBS47.
