ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- The Orange Park Police Department is searching for a man suspected of shooting and killing one woman and leaving another injured.
It happened at 5:39 a.m. on Loring Avenue near the Park Place Apartments. According to investigators, two women were sitting in their car when they were approached by a man who shot into their vehicle, then took off in a red hatchback.
The Orange Park Police Chief Gary Goble said this is the first shooting they've investigated this year in the town of Orange Park.
Some neighbors in the tight-knit community claim to have heard more than one gunshot. Neighbor Kim Lewis has lived in the area for almost a decade. She said she was shocked to learn this happened so close to home.
"It's a close community, we all know each other, so for this to happen it was really unexpected," said Lewis.
Gladys Lozada, 73, claims to be the grandmother of the surviving victim. According to Lozada, her granddaughter and her friend were coming home from a club when the shots rang out.
"When I opened the door the only thing I see is the red car running hard," said Lozada.
Lozada tells Action News her granddaughter is recovering but is still trying to make sense of it all.
Police have not released a description of the suspect nor the identities of the two women.
