JACKSONVILLE, Fla..-- 93.3 The Beat wants listeners far and wide to turn up their radio dials at 5 p.m. on Friday.

"Everybody loves music. Everybody listens to music and to die and lose your life over kind of hit us hard. And I felt it was something we need to do as a radio station," Tee-Roy, radio personality at 93.3, said.

The "Turn Up the Music" movement has spread nationwide and brought attention to the killing of 17 year-old Jordan Davis.  The Wolfson High School senior was gunned down at a Southside gas station a week ago, after an argument over loud music.

Celebrities from Russell Simmons, Omar Epps and Fat Joe have tweeted about the tragedy, and kept it in the forefront.

Given the movement, the Law Office of John Phillips will be playing "Strawberry Letter 23" by the Brothers Johnson. Phillips, the attorney for Jordan's family, will say a brief tribute before a Toys for Tots event at his office.

93.3 The Beat plans on dedicating it's 2-5 p.m. hours to Jordan.

"We have to stand up for something. This is pointless, this is senseless. Could be your son, could be your daughter. That's something a lot of people are taking heed," Tee-Roy said.

Why promote something that is a clear violation of the law? I have no issues with showing respect in some way for the loss of Jordan Davis, but find a way that does so without breaking the law and interfering with the rights of others. Mmmkay?

I would probably urge those people who dont like loud music if you pull into a gas station and loud music is blaring tell the attendant you will be buying your gas somewhere else. I see alot racism on this case. We read nearly every other day about black men killing black men in Jacksonville then it's no big deal and the murders go unsolved. Probably only exception to this was the football player shot and having his life destroyed. White guy shoots black guy suddenly it's racism. NO one should be shot for loud music, however, the whole video footage from the store needs to be made public to see if there was a shotgun involved. I serious doubt there was one, but if there was a shotgun displayed then we know what really happened. BTW if you play your music mega loud when I drive up to store to get gas or other things congradulations you just cost that business money permanetly. There is a noise ordinance in the city. I don't force people to listen to the music I listen to and I expect the same respect.

As long as it's turned back down after the song I think it's a good tribute. Rock on.

No, I won't be turning up the sound, but I will be sending up a prayer for him, his family and his friends. God speed to you Jordan. Peace.
