KISSIMMEE, Fla. — (WFTV.com
) A 41-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after he threw a 2-year-old boy from a second-story motel balcony before jumping, Kissimmee authorities said.
Police said they found Juan Pablo Maradiaga, along with the toddler, lying on the ground in the parking lot of a Budget Inn on East Vine Street early Tuesday morning.
According to a police report, the toddler's mother was contacted and told authorities that Maradiaga is the boy's father.
The mother stated that she usually brings the toddler to a babysitter, but Maradiaga had asked to spend time with the child.
Police said she agreed, but later received a phone call from Maradiaga asking her to come home because he was frustrated. The woman said she could not leave work because she was responsible for the store.
According to the report, 30 minutes after he hung up the phone, Maradiaga threw the toddler over the balcony.
Officers said the two were flown to local hospitals for treatment. They were in critical but stable condition.
The Department of Children and Families has been contacted and is working with the Kissimmee Police Department on the case.
Once discharged from the hospital, Maradiaga will be transported to jail, police said.
