FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. - A man who police say was texting while driving has been charged in a crash on Interstate 95 in Flagler County.

Robert Vespi is charged with careless driving. At around 8:30 a.m., Wednesday, police say Vespi's Nissan Altima slammed into the back of a Yukon on I-95 near State Road 9. After the accident, a witness claims Vespi said he was distracted because he was texting and didn't notice the SUV slowing down.

The driver of the Yukon, Thomas Berry, was charged with driving on a suspended license.

I am happy that a lot of insurance companies are stating to check cell phone records to see if the driver was distracted during the time the accident happened and if so they are refusing to cover any claims. The idiot who caused this accident should have to pay any and all claims out of his pocket, as I hope his insurance company refuses to pay for the damages he caused. Texting while driving should be banned, as should talking on a cell phone while driving, simply stated the roads are dangerous enough without all these distracted divers.
