Police are searching for man seen trying to sell baby for food
ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- The Orange Park Police Department is looking for a man they say tried to sell a baby for food.
It happened Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Police say the man went door to door at a local motel offering to sell the baby in exchange for food. Right now, they do not know if the baby belongs to the man. The Orange Park Police Department is working to find the man to check on the welfare of the child.
A release from the Orange Park Police Department Sunday says the man and child might have been spotted at a nearby McDonalds restaurant between 10 and 11 p.m. Saturday.
Detective Garry Briggs who is investigating the case says witnesses told police a man and baby matching the ones in surveillance pictures from a nearby motel were picked up outside the restaurant at 428 Park Ave. by a taxi. The witnesses say they were accompanied by a woman.
Briggs says checks with local cab companies show no record of any call to that location, indicating the taxi may have given them a ride off the meter.
Police are now asking cab drivers who may have picked up the pair and the child to call the Orange Park Police Department.
