Police & military teams search beach for explosives
FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. -- Military and police search teams spent Thurday morning looking for explosives in Fernandina Beach.
In the past month, at least two unexploded devices were discovered in the sand by beachgoers. One dated back to before World War I and another was from the Vietnam era.
Crews from Mayport Naval Station led the search. That team routinely helps the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office with finding and destroying explosive ordinances.
Police say if you find a suspicious device, don't touch it, instead call authorities.
