ST. AUGUSTINE Fla.-- Police are on a manhunt near a St. Augustine apartment complex after they say a young car thief stole an SUV and slammed it into neighbors' cars Wednesday night.

It's not how Shane Mahoney planned on starting his holiday weekend. His car was the first to be crushed then created a domino effect into two of his neighbors.

"I heard this loud squeal and a bang and I knew something got hit and as soon as I got to the top of the stairs I saw my car sideways," he said.

Mahoney didn't get a good look at the young man he believes hit his car but police did. The St. John's County Sheriffs Office say he ran off into the woods behind Whispering Pines Apartments. They are still searching for him.

Police say they are looking for a young black male about 5 ft 6 inches tall who is about 150 lbs.

They say they are also searching for a white Rav 4 SUV that was stolen from the same location as the vehicle involved in Wednesday's crash.

My daughter lives here and her vehicle has been broken into twice in one year and her friend had their window smashed out. Complex management claims they know of no break ins. This is suppose to be a gated complex and the gates haven't worked the 2 yesrs my daughter has lived there. Maybe if they were this would have been avoided.
