JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --  Luvberry is a frozen yogurt café located on Saint George Street in historic Saint Augustine. The shop has been open for about three years. The state recently issued an emergency at Luvberry and temporarily closed the place down for rodent droppings.

Jonathan was the only one working when we stopped in. We asked him if he knew about the most recent state health inspection for Luvberry. He told us he didn't know much and that the owner and manager were not there.

Here's what we found in the emergency order from the state. 43 rodent droppings were found in the kitchen. Thirteen rodent droppings were found upstairs in dry storage area. Eleven were seen by the side ice cream station and five were found by the hot water heater.

Jonathan told us, "Behind the fridge was the worst. It hadn't been cleaned in two years."

Jonathan gave us a quick tour of the kitchen area. He says they worked hard to get it all cleaned up but admits he has seen rats in here quite often. The last time he saw rats was a few months ago, "I haven't seen them but that doesn't mean they're not here."

We didn't see any rats or rodent droppings but we did see a trail of ants crawling up and down a yogurt machine.

The owner of Luvberry, Ami, lives in New York. He gave us this statement over the phone.

"I serve the best coffee in town. As for the report... that chapter is done."

I worked at LuvBerry from March 2013 until July 2013, and I saw rats run across the store AT LEAST 3 times a week. As for the owner, I met him the last week I was working there and he did not want to pay for exterminators because it was "too expensive" and he thought it wasn't necessary to have. Not only are there rats and ants living there, the entire building smells like urine during the summer because the attic is loaded with bats and guano. I found an entire rat carcass inside of a drawer where utensils were kept, and Ami just kind of laughed about it and made me clean it all out. There were also bags of coffee/specialty drink mixes that were torn open by rats, and the owner made us use them because he didn't want to "lose money". What the reporters/health inspectors found was just the beginning. LuvBerry needs to be permanently shut down. It's absolutely disgusting and all the owner cares about is making money. I was also told that after I left that new employees were only making $7 an hour and not making enough tips to make their pay minimum wage.
