Teen suspect caught in woman's beating

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- It took Palatka Police 12 hours to track down the 16-year-old suspect they say attacked a woman inside her home on Redbud Lane in Palatka.

The woman tells police she woke up after she heard a noise early Wednesday morning. When she got up to investigate, she found two men in her home.

The men severely beat her in the head and face. The suspects demanded money and eventually stole the woman's car. A short time later, an officer saw the stolen car on Moseley Avenue. He drove past the vehicle and says he recognized the driver as 16-year-old Michael Galan.

He says he tried to stop the car, but Galan took off around a curve. The driver ran into a power pole a few blocks away and the suspects jumped out and hid.

Officers searched the area, but the suspects were not found. Around 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, officers located Galan. He was taken into custody at a residence located near East Bay Street in Palatka.

Galan was taken into custody without incident. He was arrested and booked into the Putnam County Jail on charges of Home Invasion Robbery, Aggravated Battery and Grand Theft.

The second suspect in the case has yet to be identified.
