JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- Action News has learned Jaguars Owner Shad Khan is interested in the shipyards property.

It's prime real estate right along the waterfront. For years, it has gone undeveloped and unused. Now a new man is stepping forward with interest for the shipyards.

"I think it's a great idea. It'll bring jobs to the city and more revenue for the people here," said resident Katrina Miles.

The city acquired the 40-acre property in 2010. Before that, former mayor John Delaney had big plans for it. A plan with condos, hotels, boat slips and a park were in the works. But a decade later and there is just a park with a view.

As of 2011, taxpayers have paid upward of $40 million on the land. Now with a new potential buyer, there is hope something will be developed. In a statement, Khan said in part, "Developing the North Bank of the riverfront would go a long way toward achieving our potential. The shipyards are the front door to our home, Everbank Field, as well as the entire sports complex."

Right now, everyone is staying tight-lipped about what the plans are for the area. The mayor's office says right now, everything is very preliminary.

The city could have done many things with this wasted property. The problem with pople owning water front property is they stop people who can't afford water front property from enjoying water front property with activity like fishing, sitting by the water on hot evenings with a camp stove among other things. The people with the money are the only ones who can afford a $40 million dollar price tag.Unfortunately the one's who have the money have one thing on their mind and that's to make more money.Shad Khan can and will own much of this city one day.He see's an opening and he will waste no time.Idolizing millionaires and billionaires has become a national pastime here.
