Small plane makes emergency landing in woods; pilot uninjured
PALM VALLEY, Fla. -- A plane made an emergency landing in a rural area of northern St. Johns County Sunday morning, according to Cmdr. Chuck Mulligan with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
Rescue units spent hours trying to pin down the exact location of the plane because of the dense woods.
SJCFR eventually found the plane near a large retention pond just to the west of the Nocatee Town Center.
The pilot was the only individual on the single-engine Cessna and he escaped the emergency unscathed.
He told rescuers that plane's engine lost oil pressure, forcing him to quickly find a suitable place to land.
Rescuers say the plane was not damaged and no homes were threatened.
