JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A terrible tragedy united them, but a loving friendship keeps them together.
"As soon as I touched her head, her tail began to wag just ever so gently," said Dan Sorrells.
Deputy Dan Sorrells first laid eyes on Amber when he helped save her life during an animal cruelty call. "She made that choice for me, I didn't make that choice. She came over to me," said Sorrells.
Her throat was slashed, and she was stabbed several times. But it didn't keep her from answering Sorrells' call. "Dogs are here to make our day, and if you give them a chance they will do that," he said.
Amber has stitches and is still recovering, and she's wasting no time enjoying her new best friend. "I am just happy Amber loves me. I am just happy to get a dog kiss," he said.
This isn't the first time this officer has saved a life. Amber will be Dan's third rescue. "When you are in the right place at the right time, I would hope everyone would do what is right," said Sorrells.
Amber's former owner, 28-year-old Randel Hart, is in jail facing animal cruelty charges.
